Aisling O'Gorman

Aisling started her creative career in 1997 when she became a Young Writer in Residence the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, and had several of her writing works performed there. This was followed by studies in Music and Creative Writing at University College Chichester, UK where she was awarded a 1st class honours degree. During this time she also worked for Chichester Festival Theatre, performed in Chichester Fringe Festival Fringe, Brighton Poetry Festival and toured as support artist for musician Robert Johnston.

She is an accomplished performer and musical director. She founded and ran the highly successful Get Vocal Choir, was a full-time performer for Shannon Heritage and also performed with professional vocal trio The Swingettes for 3 years.  She directs several adult choirs, a children’s choir and songwriting club, performs as solo vocalist, composes for voices and contemporary music ensembles and has compositions published in the UK. She has also facilitated vocal and music workshops and events for the National Chamber Choir, The Hawth Theatre, the Donegal-Tyrone Partnership, the University of Chichester and Limerick City and County Councils amongst many others. In 2006 she undertook an MA in Community Music at the University of Limerick and was awarded 1st class honours. She has broadcast on RTE Lyric FM, Limerick Live 95FM, Clare FM and Spirit FM.

In the role of Participation and Learning Programme Manager with University Concert Hall she has initiated and continues to develop an innovative music engagement programme including the award-winning Africa Day projects and the Big Sing – which have seen upwards of 1,000 people creating music together. She is also a regular guest lecturer on programmes for the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.
